The Mayans, The Aztecs, And The Incas Essay Example for Free

The Mayans, The Aztecs, And The Incas Essay From 250 A.D. to the late 1500s A.D., three advanced civilizations, the Mayans, the Aztecs, and the Incas controlled Central America and South America. Each of them was different but all shared some of the same qualities. They all were civilizations that had a daily life than revolved around religion. Their religions also required a lot of human sacrifices to please the gods. Also, they all invented calendars that were surprisingly accurate compared to the calendars today. One of the calendars was less than a minute from being exact. Finally, they all declined for many different reasons but the Spanish conquistadors was one of the most common and deadliest, due to their advanced weapons and the diseases they brought. But even thought they all had mysterious declines, these ancient civilizations of Latin America were very advanced and had many great achievements. The earliest Latin American civilization was the empire of the Mayans. They controlled most of the Yucatan peninsula and part of southern Mexico. The Mayans were known for their advanced math skills. They invented the number zero and developed a sophisticated counting system; the Incas also had an advanced counting system like the Mayans. Mayans communicated through the use of hieroglyphics. They had over 800 symbols that represented things like words, syllables, days, and numbers. The Mayans were also well known for their new type of farming. They called it slash and burn farming in which they cut down all the trees in an area, then they lit the area on fire, so that the ashes from the trees would enrich the soil and make it better to grow in. the decline of the Mayan empire is a mystery still to this day. The most popular theories are that the soil became infertile, so they ran out of food. Another theory was that they just got up and left and walked into the jungles. The only other possible theory is because of constant warfare between the Mayan city-states. After the fall of the Mayan empire, the great civilization of the Aztecs came into power. The Aztecs centered themselves on Lake Texcoco, in the city of Tenochtitlan. The capital city of the Aztecs was built in the center of Lake Texcoco, with large causeways, which were large sturdy bridges, connecting the city to the mainland. The Aztecs advanced engineering allowed them to adapt to their environment just as the Mayans and Incas did. The written  language of the Aztecs was a combination of hieroglyphics and pictorial symbols. Like the Mayans, the Aztecs language was used for counting, which was more primitive in Aztec culture, days, records, and communication. The Aztecs expanded their empire through military strength. They conquered the nearby city-states, and forced them to pay tribute or face destruction. But later needed for sacrificial subjects led to less aggressive and less deadly military tactics, causing the strength of the Aztec army to diminish. Around the late 1400s into the 1500s, the power and vastness of the Aztecs began to fade. The once calm and under control city-states began to rebel, leading to less human sacrifice and less resources being collected. Also, the conquistadors came from Spain, brining along with them deadly diseases like smallpox, and far superior steel weapons, along with a lust for gold. They soon conquered and destroyed the Aztec empire with almost no effort at all. The Incas, down in the Andes Mountains, never came into contact with the Central American civilizations. They never borrowed any customs or traditions, yet their civilization was fairly similar. They had very advanced engineering skills, which led them to the building of extensive road systems. They also began the idea of terrace farming in which you carve out steps into a hill and farm on the man-made steps. Even though the Incas had no written language, they passed everything down through oral communications. But they did have a complicated counting system in which different sized beads and colored ropes were used to counts things such as military, crops, population, and many other things. The Incas, as did the other Latin empires, had invented a calendar that had 365 days and was kept accurate by looking at the position of the stars, the moon, the planets, and the sun. Due to the complex road system the Incas built, they had to devise a simple messenger system to communicate throughout the empire. Runners would have to travel over twenty-five miles a day to run a message to another runner, then the first runner would have to pass off the message to the second runner and then the first runner would rest. It works somewhat like a relay race only it isnt a competition. In the late 1500s civil war began to break out between the sons of the emperor after he had died. The empire then split into two halves, but it never became whole again and just slowly began to crumble until it was gone. In conclusion, these three civilizations were the most sophisticated in all of the Americas at the time. The Mayans were excellent astronomers and mathematicians, the Aztecs were experienced warriors, and the Incas were skilled engineers. Even though all of the empires had different strengths, they all had some similar qualities. They all built stone buildings, with the Mayans and Aztecs and their well-built pyramids, and they all were polytheistic cultures that practiced sacrifices daily. All of these sacrifices led to a large loss in resources both human and natural. The Aztecs alone would sacrifice a quarter of a million people a year. They all used gold and melted it and made figurines to give to the gods. Soon their empires fell apart and the people of the empire just walked away.

Background Of Pulmonary Edema Health And Social Care Essay

Background Of Pulmonary Edema Health And Social Care Essay Heart failure is a medical condition that consequences as the heart is incapable to supply adequate blood flow to convene metabolic necessities or contain systemic venous arrival. According to Conte and Clinton (2012), this widespread state influences over 5 million individuals in the United States at an expense of $10-38 billion annually. In this paper, we will discuss a type of heart failure, Pulmonary Edema. Considering its etiology, types, and symptoms, we will also discuss the methodologies of its treatment. Introduction Pulmonary edema is a situation due to reason of surplus liquid in the lungs. This kind of liquid collects inside oxygen sacks inside lungs, rendering it hard to inhale and exhale (Kapoor, 2011). Typically, heart disease cause pulmonary edema. Pulmonary edema can be generally put into cardiogenic and also non-cardiogenic reasons. Cardiogenic factors behind pulmonary edema are a result of high pressure in the arteries from the lung due to poor heart function. Non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema could be frequently brought on by Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), Renal failure, quick incline so that you can large altitudes greater than 10,000 ft, The rapidly increasing lung, a great overdose in strong drugs or methadone, Pain killers drug or even chronic large dosage utilization of aspirin, or in unusual instances pulmonary embolism, transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), a few infections, or perhaps eclampsia in pregnant women. Most sufferers with pulmonary edema inside internal medicine section tend to be elderly, having ischaemic heart problems, hypertension, diabetes, plus a previous history of pulmonary edema. The entire mortality will be large (in-hospital, 12%) and the predictors connected with large in-hospital fatality are related to remaining ventricular myocardial operate. Pulmonary vessels generate a great disproportion in the startling pressure, ultimately causing increase in the liquid filtering into the interstitial, spaces with the bronchi that exceeds the lymphatic system capacity to drain the particular liquids apart, increasing quantities associated with smooth leak into the alveolar room, the particular lymphatic system drain pipes extra extracellular fluid quantity. In the event the alveolar tissue is damaged, the particular liquid builds up in the alveoli. Hypoxemia grows if the alveolar tissue layer is thickened simply by simply fluid which affects exchange of air and also as fluid fills opening and alveolar area, lung complying decreases and air diffusion. The most common symptom of pulmonary edema will be breathlessness or perhaps breathlessness. Additional common symptoms can sometimes include easy tiredness, more rapidly developing difficulty breathing than usual having typical exercise (dyspnea in exertion), quick inhaling (tachypnea), dizziness, or weak point. Etiology and Overview: The etiology of pulmonary edema is divided into two groups: Cardiogenic: It is defined as pulmonary edema because of amplified capillary hydrostatic pressure minor to prominent pulmonary venous stress. It reflects the accretion of liquid with low-protein substance in the lungs and alveoli as a consequence of cardiac malfunction. It is caused by high pulmonary capillary hydrostatic pressure leading to transudation of liquid into the pulmonary artery and alveoli. Myocardial infarction is the universal discovery in these sufferers following-on in left ventricular malfunction and greater than before hydrostatic pressure (Bajwa Kulshrestha, 2012). Non-Cardiogenic: This is caused by various disorders in which factors other than elevated pulmonary capillary pressure are responsible for protein and fluid accumulation in the alveoli. noncardiogenic pulmonary edema (NPE), is caused by changes in permeability of the pulmonary capillary membrane as a result of either a direct or an indirect pathologic insult. The major reasons of non-cardigenic PE are Drowning, Acute glomerulonephritis, Fluid overload, infections and mismatch during blood transfusion, Neurogenic pulmonary edema, anxiety, Inhalation injury, allergic effects, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), distress, inhalation of polluted air, Hanta virus (caused by rats having symptoms alike flu), etc. Statistics: With a getting old population and growing figures of patients enduring severe myocardial infarcts, there is a rising figure of patients with pulmonary edema. Heart malfunctioning is the most universal reason of admittance to hospital in the Medicare population in America, and more or less a million patients (978,000) were hospitalized with the identification of pulmonary edema in 1998. Other western states, for instance, Australia and the UK possess a likewise high occurrence. Authorized researches reveal that 746 per year, 62 per month, 14 per week, and 2 per day deaths are reported due to pulmonary edema. Physiology and Pathophysiology: According to Plummer and Campagnaro (2013), timely diagnosis of pulmonary edema is necessary as the situation is finely supervised by abolishing the neurogenic activator. A circulatory system of a normal person functions such that the flow of fluid from pulmonary capillaries to lungs equals removal of fluid by pulmonary lymphatic and the normal pulmonary capillary pressure is about8 mmHg. Signs and symptoms: Pulmonary Edema can be initially diagnosed by considering the symptoms such as Dyspnea (trouble in inhalation), orthopnea (conciseness of breathing), nervousness or sentiment of imminent destiny, frothy-pink or salmon-colored sputum (coughed-up matter), Cyanosis (bluish dermal state), paleness, Diaphoresis (extreme sweating), difficulty to laze horizontal, and reduced predictive indications such as Hypoxia (insufficient oxygen in body tissue), irregular blood pressure, elevated heart rate, and enlarged pulmonary capillary wedge pressure. Physical exam Patients suffering from pulmonary edema can demonstrate vital signs showing tachypnea (state of hasty inhalation), tachycardia (fast heart rate), and hypotension (irregular low blood pressure). Integument exam can reveal skin paleness and another condition of Livedo Reticularis i.e. skin yellowing, emerging with marks. Pulmonary exam shows atypical panting sounds with infrequent wheezing and odd breathing pattern with employment of secondary muscles. Cardiac exam exposes Pulsus alternans a state of discontinuous weak and strong pulse which can be an indication of left ventricular malfunction in Congestive Heart Failure and abnormal hums in cardiac diaphragm. Pathophysiology: Pulmonary edema grows when the transport of fluid from the blood vessels to the interstitial gap and in a number of cases to the alveoli surpass the arrival of fluid to the blood by route of the lymphatic. It is initiated by discrepancy in Starling pressures and crucial injury to a variety of constituents of the alveolar capillary membrane. Also, the order of fluid exchange and accumulation in the lungs and air sacs is disturbed. The pulmonary edema is represented upon three separate successive phases: Phase 1 amplification in transport of fluid from blood capillaries to the interstitial gap Phase 2 lymphatic does not follow fast pace and fluid and colloid start to amass Phase 3 alveolar capillary membrane is incredibly slender and bursts instantly, consequently alveolar overflow takes place Treatment: When evaluating the patients, a chest x-ray is essential in differentiating between aspiration pneumonitis and pulmonary edema (Udeshi, Pierre, Cantie, 2010). The goal of treatment of patients of pulmonary edema is to reduce pulmonary venous and capillary strain, enhance cardiac output, and correct the fundamental pathological conduct. Offering oxygen is the first step in therapy regarding pulmonary edema. You always obtain oxygen via a face mask or even nasal cannula à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ a flexible plastic material tube having 2 openings that provide inhalation to both nostrils. Preload decreasing drugs lower pressure brought on by smooth starting the heart and lungs. Morphine (Astramorph) may be used to relieve shortness of breath and also anxiety. Afterload reducers widen your blood vessels and also take a pressure insert away your heartà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s ventricle. Later treatments include drug and oxygen therapy. The process of Drug therapy is slightly complicated as compared to the oxygen treatment. The application of loop diuretics e.g., torsemide, bumetanide, furosemide renders vasodilation and reduces pulmonary blocking. Besides, overseeing metolazone for treatment of Congestive Heart Failure is an important aspect here. Vasodilators provide dilation of vascular artery, consequently lessening the pulmonary vascular pressure. Morphine sulfate tends to cause venous dilation and Aminophylline is prescribed after the signs of wheezing are seen. Oxygen therapy is relatively an easy process for the treatment of patients of pulmonary edema. An uncomplicated technique of Intubation is employed. However, motorized ventilation may perhaps be essential, depending on the severity of disease. Other processes are continuous positive airway pressure PAP method of respiratory ventilation mainly to avoid tracheal intubation and bi-level PAP used when airway is required with the accumulation of pressure maintenance. Swan-Ganz catheter The pulmonary artery catheter is commonly known as Swan-Ganz catheter, may be the incorporation of catheter in a pulmonary artery. The objective is diagnosis (assessment and inference); also utilized to identify heart failure or sepsis, observe therapy, and assess the consequences of medications. The pulmonary artery catheter permits undeviating, concurrent analysis regarding pressures inside right atrium, ventricle, pulmonary artery, and left atrium. Conclusion As we have already considered the statistics regarding the pulmonary edema, although it is becoming common these, yet prevention of every disease is possible. The patients who already are suffering from this, shall adhere firmly to treatment and comply with the directions given by their physicians, they should make certain that they spend their daily life according to the doctors advices and counseling, such that their situation remains under control. Also, a healthy person, to avoid pulmonary edema if follows a fit, well balanced meal and continue with an suggested bodyweight according to his age and height, his danger of developing pulmonary edema will be a great deal lesser than a person who does not follow the tips of living a healthy life.

In this regard, Tesco has made no secret of their ambitions, Tesco chief executive Lacey has more than once in public, revealed the attempt to catch up with Wal-Mart, Carrefour will. Tescos aim is to do the boss of Chinas retail industry. 2. Main ways Sourcing: Tesco in many countries have established procurement center, which makes Tesco the lowest cost to our customers around the world with cheap goods. In addition, we adopted the cooperation with local suppliers, and they share the Tesco experience in related industries and technologies. China is a can for our shops around the world to provide cheap products sourcing land. Tesco has been in China a lot of purchasing investments. We are sourcing from China worth about 11 billion of products in our stores in all global sales. As our business continues to grow, we expect this number be increased. Distribution: Our warehouse in Shanghai and set up a Commission (DC) and fresh Distribution Center (FFDC). Warehouse and distribution center systems have fresh through strict quality control procedures, advanced equipment and highly trained employees, customers continue to provide quality goods distribution. The logistics and distribution centers also contributed to the environment, so that delivery to each of the number of stores decreased from 100 times a day to only two to three times, thereby reducing traffic congestion. Supermarket operators: In 2004, we have adopted and then Tesco supermarket 25 Ting Hsin International Group to work together to enter the Chinese market. In 2006, we will hold shares from 50% to 90%. Today, Tesco is on its successful experience in promoting e-commerce to open up their markets to any one, I believe the near future, Chinese consumers will also benefit from the crowded supermarket suppressing nausea and narrow the total liberation of the shopping channel out, replaced by a fresh and fast, and highly personalized online orders, the goods sent home immediately. 3. Tesco there is a big difference between its own brand has many Tesco to sell their original is a baked bread and other foods supermarket started, and now it is home to many of the production of goods placed on the supermarket shelves for reference by the customer to buy. So far, Tesco has been gradually introduced in supermarkets in Tesco than 400 own-brand goods in the next five or six years, the number of these proprietary brands are expected to grow to 3,000 species of -4000 species. 4. Tescos other big surprise move is to choose to open up overseas markets in the form of supermarkets As we all know, Tesco began to move out of their own country If we can not, a hypermarket, supermarket are all small and flexible to supermarkets in the form of special in a strange success of the overseas market has become a big unknown. To the Chinese market as an example. China seems all supermarkets are carved out of a mold, we are imitating each other, a high degree of homogeneity. Napoleon Bonaparte :: essays research papers

Napoleon Bonaparte Napoleon Bonaparte, the son of Carlo and Letizia Bonaparte, was born in Ajaccio, Corsica on August 15, 1768. In 1779, he was sent to a military school in Paris. He was made fun of by the French there, and gave him the dream of power. Napoleon was waiting for the right time to achieve greater power, and that moment came when the French monarchy was overthrown. Napoleon’s parents were radicals, and both died soon after he turned 16, therefore leaving him the estate. His first battle was when he directed the artillery siege of Toulon in 1793, and afterwards he was promoted to brigadier general. In 1795, he scattered a group of rioters by firing a grapeshot, a shot gun version of a cannon, into the crowd. Napoleon was then made commander of the Italian army and won four straight battles against the Austrians. In 1797, Austria surrendered to France when Napoleon was just 80 miles from the capitol. When the fight was taken to Egypt, he again won the battle of the pyramids, but lost his fleet of ships in his next fight over the battle of the Nile. He returned home to France to see that the French government was really messed up. "In 1799 he abolished the Directorate and set up a consulate." He was not happy and wanted more power, so he went after the rest of Europe, but had settled with many treaties. Those treaties had put Fran ce at peace with all of Europe. Then in 1803, war broke out again in Europe, and Britain allied with the other countries of Europe to fight against France. "Napoleon brought those European countries to their knees and forced them to sign humiliating treaties, and now, Britain was the only country left not under Napoleon’s rule." One of Napoleon’s few bad campaigns was when he went into Russia, and instead of the Russians just letting the French capture them, they used guerrilla tactics and also the weather, to fight France. Once Napoleon finally defeated the Russians, he went to Moscow, only to see it in flames. The Grand Army, which was originally made up of 500,000 troops, now had a short of supplies and shelter from the harsh winter. Because of that, they had returned to France being known as "One of Napoleon’s worst blunders." Europe noticed that Napoleon was now weak, and they allied against him and came out victorious, and the European’s forced Napoleon the abdicate power on April 6, 1814.

History Of Haiku :: essays research papers fc

In Japan, short poems have a long history. The earliest Japanese poetry such as that of the Manyoshu, written in 759 A.D., includes stirring narrative, dramatic and short lyrical poems which scholars believe were originally written as part of the pre-Buddhist or early Shinto ceremonial rituals (Haiku). This anthology includes anonymous songs and prayers designed to celebrate and pacify the gods, prayers for safe voyages, formal eulogies on the death of an Emperor or Empress and courting, marriage, planting and harvesting rituals. The 5 syllable, 7 syllable, 5 syllable haiku has evolved and been reinvented many times over the centuries. One such form is the 31 syllable waka composed of five 5-7-5-7-7 syllable phrases. Developed as the early imperial court of the late eighth century consolidated cultural, social and political forms, the waka took its place as one of the important regularized poetic forms of the period. Within imperial circles, minor officials and scribes gained recognition as poem-providers and word specialists due to their ability to compose waka (Haiku). Nevertheless, early Japanese poetry went beyond official usage. In the 14th century, an intellectual game developed where one person would write the first half of a waka-like poem, and another would complete it, adding the two 7-syllable stanzas. As many as four people took part in composing such poetry in what developed as a serious poetic form, with many complicated rules to ensure that the elegant court-poetry diction and aesthetic ideals were maintained. However, in large social gatherings where Japanese rice wine, or sake, was often served, participants became inebriated and started writing haikai, comic linked verse, which ignored many of the rules and allowed any subject matter at all, from the truly crude and erotic to pure slapstick, daffy comedy. According to Dr. Kerkham, it was this lower-level poetic form which Matsuna ga Teitoku, haikai master, tried to clean up and popularize and teach to his student Matsuo Basho (1644-1694). Basho's haiku, written while travelling around Japan, made him one of Japan's most celebrated poets.

Family Values

Family Values with the Cosby Show Growing up in the mid 1980’s I can remember watching the Cosby Show. My family and I fell in love with the Huxtable family. The show was funny, witty, and dealt with serious issues at some times. It was also the first show that portrayed a black family living a successful middle class life style. The show’s concepts were very unusual to me, because around that time we thought America dealt with majority Caucasian problems and shows.Growing up in a dysfunctional home in which my mother was always under lots of stress and my father was to drunk to care about how we live our lives it was just a sad fact of family life at that time. At the time it didn’t seem like it was a bad way to live. That is until I discovered a different aspect of family life and values. The family values displayed in the Cosby show were things that I had never seen before. It was a complete shock to my young mind to say the least. Mr. and Mrs.Huxtable were th e ideal parents. They displayed strong moral values, they also involved themselves in their children’s lives as loving guides, and they taught their children the value of how important it was to have an education. Despite all of these positive aspects surrounding their children they were still able to remain happily married. My siblings and I had a wonderful mother. Yet our family had a lack of morals and values that would serve to inspire us to do something with our lives.Morals and values were those key components that the Huxtables were so good at portraying to there children. As a family we never felt that we weren’t loved. My mother was always very good at teaching us how to look out for one another. I can remember that that was one of the few good aspects from the show that I was able to identify with. The Huxtables always seemed to have a form of togetherness. They were good at relying on one another. Their parents made sure to keep the children away from bad in fluences like drugs and violence. They instilled inside their kids those good morals and values that would help them to become good adults. Besides being loving parents Cliff and Clair Huxtable were friends to there children and thus enabled them to be parental guides when problems would arise. I think that it was that friendship that allowed for their children to open up and share there problems with them. This was the exact opposite of what it was like for my siblings and me. My mother didn’t involve herself in our daily lives causing me, in part, to become rebellious and secretive. My mother and father never finished high school. So I think that to them it wasn’t that important for us to do so ether. On the Cosby show both parents were college grads and both were successful in there career fields. I noticed that in the show it was expected of the children to go to a university. I know that not finishing high school and going to college may sound strange to you the rea der right now, but due to were and when I grew up it was perfectly normal to be a drop out.Growing up in a poverty stricken drug and alcohol centered environment it would have been so easy for me to end up in a gang, or in prison, or maybe even dead. I believe that there are a number of positive factors that kept my family and me from suffering unfortunate events. Mainly it was our obedience and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I also believe that God has many different ways to speak to us. He is constantly throwing us life preservers, but it is up to us rather we grab hold to them or not.At a young an impressionable age I stumbled across a television show that would eventually change and challenge my way of thinking. I learn examples of what it would mean to be a good father, why it was beneficial to go to college, and I learned what I wanted my personal family to be like. The Cosby show was definitely a grate show. The show was a pioneer in its time leading the way for many other s hows like it. That family taught me life lessons that I will never forget. It was a very positive show that I enjoyed and that’s stayed with me even until this day.
